Today i was going to lay into a sporting legend, Lance Edward Gunderson (not sure where he got the Armstrong bit from) due to his constant tweeting on Twitter only 3 days into the Tour de France.
But how can i lay into a guy who won 7 consecutive Tours des Frances (annunciated like an English bloke), 4 AP Male Athlete of the Year awards, survived cancer, has a resting hear-rate of 32-34 (you gotta be kidding me) and ‘Favourite Athlete’ at the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards in 2006?
Now, i’m not hugely into cycling – but i thought i’d follow Sir Lancelot (possibly not a genuine nickname) to see what he got up to & for the used-to-be-rare-before-social-networking insight into the daily life of a sporting legend.
Well, it kicked of earlier today when i realised Armstrong’s Kazakstani riding team Astana was fined for it’s late registration for this morning’s 3rd stage. Lance replied in cyber fashion this evening stating “Btw, sorry we were late for the sign on this am. It was Stiller’s fault!!” he is actually blaming the really, really, ridiculously good-looking Ben Stiller on his late arrival.
The ex-US Postal man makes up for it later with “Ben and I in the bus pre-race. In discussions re: the Dodgeball sequel. Could be huge.” that’s more like it Lance-o! You’re the only man i’d want to talk Vince Vaughan back into playing dodgeball at such a crucial point in Act 3. Dodgeball was awesome, not quite the Brat-pack pinnacle that was Anchorman, but that’s another blog for another day.
Lance, when not describing Stage 3 of the Tour as ‘gnarly’ , did spare a tweet to type his congratulations for Mark Cavendish – the Brit sprinter has taken two of the opening 3 stages of the Tour - and gives ‘Cav’ credit where it’s due, however, i’m not certain how well Lance knows ‘Cav’, i mean, i’ve prodded around off stump for potential Lance nicknames & i’m definitely not his friend – i am a follower.
I am beginning to wonder if Lancey-boy surfs & tweets on the saddle, he even found time to comment on the defacing of an original Banksy - i didn’t think leg-glance Lance was a big reader of thisisbristol.co.uk.
So, i guess respect goes out to Lance afterall. Obviously a dedicated guy and well-read in UK regional news websites, would love to find a weird weakness in the man – but, testee removal aside – there’s nothing to go on. And, it wouldn’t be a Lance Legstrong blog without a charitable link to his cancer campaign LIVESTRONG - sterling work. Yet, i had two Livestrong bands, they both broke – a $1 bracelet? It smacks of cheap material costs Lance, i want a refund.
Thanks for reading - LIVESTRONG and prosper (that second bit is from Star Trek)
