Sharpen up!
I could join the South Africa bandwagon…England football team have successfully qualified for World Cup 2010 with a 5-1 thumping of Croatia.
Rather than celebrate our qualification, which in all honest should never have been in doubt (afterall we’re ranked #7 in the world), it is worth looking at our rival nations who are struggling to qualify – Portugal are teetering on the brink of not qualifying, but no doubt will sneak through in true continental style vs the more mild-mannered nations like Sweden and Denmark.
Also, Argentina are not looking too hot in South American qualifying…so without Portugal or Argentina we’d be guaranteed a semi-final place surely?
Hopefully (but not likely), our media will not get carried away with the notion of winning the World Cup…give it a few months at least guys.
The ‘sharpen up’ is concerning the England ODI team…now 0-3 in the series and you could just re-read my pre-ODI series blog…(nothing has changed).
Strauss aside, no batters can go on to hit explosively or accumulate (Strauss the latter)…Beefy says “shake up the batting order”, needless to say some heads are on the block.
Fielding-wise, many International sides are quick and athletic in the field – South Africa and Australia build reputations on it – unfortunately, England have a few slow players (Shah, actually born in treacle), and Bopara in a short extra cover saving singles and lurking for run outs…one problem – he can’t hit the stumps.
Can we end the series now? 0-3, i’ll take it, begrudgingly, because 0-7 looks a whole lot worse.
